PHILOSOPHICAL APPRECIATION DAY

Thanksgiving is a holiday that is usually celebrated on the last Thursday of November in several English-speaking countries with the aim of expressing gratitude for all the blessings of the previous year. Thanksgiving has its roots in 1621, when English settlers decided to celebrate a successful harvest due to difficult weather conditions. Thanksgiving was officially adopted as a national holiday in 1863 by the decision of the then President Abraham Lincoln. In the USA, this holiday is celebrated through family gatherings and the preparation of traditional dishes such as turkey or cranberry sauce, but also through parades and sports competitions that are held across the USA and attract millions of spectators. On Thursday, 28.11. 2024, the English Language and Literature study program celebrated Thanksgiving through a number of different activities. Students had the opportunity to gain knowledge about this day and get acquainted with the traditions inherent in the language and culture they study as part of their studies. On the occasion of the opening of the celebration, the students were addressed by the dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Prof. Dr. Alica Arnaut, head of the Study Program English Language and Literature, ex. prof. Ph.D. Adnan Bujak, who emphasized the importance of such events for the authentic study of a foreign language. The enthusiasm shown by the students confirms the effectiveness of such practices, and next year we expect a greater response and organizational framework, which we are extremely looking forward to.
