2.1. Reasons for starting the study The study of English language and literature has existed for 11 years at the University of Zenica. It was founded within the Faculty of Pedagogy, which in 2013 grew into the Faculty of Philosophy. From the very beginning, the study was conceived as a general study of English language and literature, i.e. as a philological study that also includes basic teacher training. Unlike all other professions in which one can know the English language and be successful in communicating in this language, the final results of the English language and literature study program are specialists for language, they possess basic formal linguistic  knowledge about language in general, about English, about one's mother tongue, about professional registers and linguistic aspects of these registers, and about sociolinguistic aspects of the relationship between two languages (English and Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian). In the context of the future development of BiH, its path towards the EU and openness to the world as a whole, and considering the global role of the English language, the need for English language specialists in our society is unquestionable. This study is a ticket to many occupations and professions, as well as to continuing education in the field of philology and other related disciplines.
2.2. Evaluation of expediency with regard to the needs of the labor market in the public and private sector According to its content and objectives, this study program prepares experts for language issues related to the English language, translation and education. The undergraduate study program is designed as a basis for multiple cycles of studies in philology and related disciplines and prepares students for continuing education in the second cycle of studies. Considering the European orientation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the role of the English language in communication on a global level, there is a need for English language experts in addition to education in areas such as translation, publishing, journalism, culture, tourism and hotel management, traffic and communication, etc.
2.3. Alignment with mission and strategy
OJ/University
The study of English language and literature is one of the study programs present at the Faculty of Education - today's Faculty of Philosophy - since its foundation. As a foreign language study, it is an indispensable part of the philological studies of the Faculty of Philosophy in Zenica, and it fits into the mission and strategy of this faculty of developing humanistic scientific and professional disciplines within UNZE.
2.4. Comparability of the study program s
programs of other higher education institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina and beyond
In its basic features, the program is harmonized with other similar programs in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but at the same time it has specificities in the program content of individual linguistic subjects, as well as in the concept of organizing the first cycle of studies lasting 4 study years.
2.5. Connection with the local community
(economy, public institutions)
Connection with similar departments at other universities, with primary and secondary schools of ZDK, with the cultural community, universities in Anglophone countries (through embassies), connection with the British Council.
