Namely, thanks to the financial support of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, research and analysis of the state of cultural tourism in the area of Zenica-Doboj Canton was conducted in 2018. The research included several segments such as records of cultural resources, allocations for cultural tourism, analysis of existing cultural tourism development strategies, promotional materials, and examination of current models of digital mapping of cultural tourism content in the tourist offer in the area of Zenica-Doboj canton.
Research has established that the Zenica-Doboj Canton has a large cultural capital in the form of cultural heritage, cultural institutions and organizations, cultural-historical monuments and significant cultural manifestations. However, the results showed that the existing resources are not used enough and that it is necessary to plan more significant funds for the field of tourism and cultural tourism in the budgets of local communities and the budget of the Zenica-Doboj Canton. It is also necessary to establish an appropriate legal framework, form the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of the ZDK, strengthen institutional capacities (info centers, competent municipal/city services and competent ministries), improve infrastructure (road communications, accompanying catering facilities, tourist information boards, digital promotion ) and educate professional staff (tourist guides, tourism managers).
