PRESS RELEASE OF THE SCIENTIFIC-TEACHING COUNCIL OF THE FACULTY OF PHILOSOPHY, UNIVERSITY OF ZENICA

The largest academic body of the University of Zenica, the Scientific and Teaching Council of the Faculty of Philosophy, which also includes representatives of the main departments who are employees and other organizational units of the University of Zenica, held an extraordinary session on Thursday, 03. 07. at 12 o'clock. In addition to the members of the Scientific and Teaching Council, the session was attended by all employees of the Faculty, since the current issues relate to all employees. As an item on the agenda, it was proposed to consider and take a position regarding the current situation of the University of Zenica, all its organizational units, and all employees. After the discussion, all conclusions were unanimously adopted by the 39 members of the Scientific and Teaching Council of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Zenica present, and supported by the teaching and non-teaching staff present who are not members of the Scientific and Teaching Council.

We would like to inform the public that employees have not been paid their salaries, and that health insurance has been blocked. Therefore, workers in all positions are currently deprived of all financial income and are prevented from receiving treatment, therapy, and any form of health care.

The Academic Council strongly condemns and calls for responsible action by all actors who have led to this status of employees of the University of Zenica and calls for an urgent resolution of the situation, emphasizing that the employees have fulfilled all their obligations prescribed by law and the Contract in a timely manner, and have not jeopardized the teaching process and the implementation of exam deadlines. We also expect responsible actors to respect legal regulations and conscientiously perform their duties.

The Academic Council calls on the members of the Senate to act in accordance with applicable legal regulations and elect the Acting Rector of the University of Zenica.

Also, the Scientific and Teaching Council of the Faculty of Philosophy provides support to the legally based institutional struggle to preserve the autonomy and academic freedoms of the University of Zenica in accordance with applicable relevant laws, rules and regulations.

The Scientific and Educational Council of the Faculty of Philosophy calls on the Scientific and Educational Councils of all other faculties of the University of Zenica to take positions regarding the situation of the University's employees.

Attached is the conclusions adopted at the session of the Scientific and Educational Council of the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Zenica.

Article 1.

Conclusion on support for preserving the autonomy of the University of Zenica

The Scientific and Teaching Council of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Zenica supports the institutional and legal struggle to preserve the autonomy and academic freedoms of the University of Zenica in accordance with laws, rules and regulations.

Article 2.

Conclusion on initiating the procedure for the appointment of the Acting Rector of the University of Zenica

The Scientific and Educational Council of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Zenica calls on the Senate to urgently appoint the Acting Rector of the University of Zenica in accordance with applicable regulations, with the aim of enabling the exercise of the rights of employees of the University of Zenica (salary, health insurance and other rights), as well as other activities.

Article 3.

Conclusions on initiating the procedure for convening a session of the Senate of the University of Zenica

(1) In accordance with Article 69, paragraph (8) of the Statute of the University of Zenica, the Scientific and Educational Council of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Zenica initiates the procedure of urgently convening a session of the Senate of the University of Zenica for the election of the Acting Rector, and invites the Scientific and Educational Councils of other faculties to express their position on this issue.

(2) The Scientific and Teaching Council of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Zenica proposes the urgent inclusion of an item on the agenda of the Senate of the University of Zenica regarding the appointment of the Acting Rector of the University of Zenica.

(3) The Scientific and Teaching Council of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Zenica provides support to the elected representatives of the Faculty of Philosophy in the Senate, in accordance with the procedure for convening a Senate session prescribed in Article 69, paragraph (8) of the Statute of the University of Zenica, to submit a written request for an urgent convening of a Senate session for the election of the Acting Rector if the support of half of the Senate members is provided.

(4) The Scientific and Teaching Council of the Faculty of Philosophy calls on the members of the Senate to act urgently in accordance with the Law and request the convening of an extraordinary session of the Senate to elect the Acting Rector in accordance with Article 69, paragraph (8) of the Statute of the University of Zenica.

Article 4.

Conclusion on informing the public about the positions of the Scientific and Educational Council of the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Zenica

(1) The Scientific and Educational Council of the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Zenica agrees to inform the public through the media about the adopted conclusions of the Scientific and Educational Council of the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Zenica.

(2) The Scientific and Educational Council of the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Zenica, tasks the Dean and the Chair of the Scientific and Educational Council of the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Zenica to prepare a media release and deliver it to the addresses of media institutions.
