Students of Cultural Studies and Culture and Tourism participated in the realization of the play City of Light

Students of the study programs Cultural Studies and Culture and Tourism of the Faculty of Philosophy participated in workshops and the creative process of creating scenography segments for the play "City of Light" (City of Lights) of the Bosnian National Theatre Zenica. The activity was implemented within the framework of field and practical teaching in the subjects Contemporary Cultural Production and Performance and Stage Culture.

The performance City of Light deals with the contemporary urban experience of Zenica, the relationship between the individual and the city, and the complex social and identity issues of today, and through a visually powerful and interdisciplinary stage expression, it connects acting, movement, light and scenography. In this context, the participation of students in the creation of scenographic elements represented a valuable contribution to the overall visual and performance structure of the play.

During the cooperation with the Bosnian National Theatre Zenica, students had the opportunity to directly engage in the professional theatre process and gain some practical knowledge about contemporary stage production. In addition to working on scenographic elements, students also attended a performance of the puppet show for adult audiences, The Walker, followed by a short conversation and analysis with the director. The play by author David Zuazola (Spain/Chile), produced by Unia Teatr Niemozliwy (Poland) and directed by Marek Chodaczyński, addresses the experience of exile, loss and the search for freedom. Through puppetry and mechanical stage systems, a contemporary, technologically advanced, but emotionally alienated world is metaphorically depicted.

The students were also guests of the Bosnian National Theatre Zenica at the first reprise performance of the play City of Light, where they had the opportunity to, in addition to watching the actors' performances, see the results of their own work integrated into the final stage production. On this occasion, the BNP Zenica officially thanked the students for their contribution to the realization of the project in the promotional and theatrical materials of the play. This activity also represents a continuation of the successful cooperation between the Bosnian National Theatre and the Faculty of Philosophy, and an example of a quality connection between academic teaching and artistic practice.
