Lecture by M.Sc. Ivan Roncevic from the Institute of Slavic Studies, University of Vienna
On Tuesday, 12.04.2016. year, the Department of B/H/S Language and Literature was hosted by local Master Ivan Roncevic, who gave a lecture on the historical and cultural context of the traditional ten-point distich. This lecture is the first in a series establishing cooperation with the University of Vienna and the Institute of Slavic Studies.
In his presentation, Roncevic pointed out: "Every folk custom is accompanied by folk songs. We use them to express our deepest feelings. We express our thoughts and observations with them, and very often they are instruments of national, religious and political affiliation. The traditional folk ten, passed down by word of mouth for centuries, is still an indispensable part of parties today, and is recognizable by the name Bećarac. We most often associate lascivious verses with this name, but that is only one of its characteristics, which is why we often forget those 'beautiful and honest letters' in which we can read all the deepest feelings and thoughts of our people."
