Interculturality in Education – a workshop for guests from Princeton University

On March 13, 2025, our faculty was visited by students and professors from Princeton University. The visit was organized as part of the course Intercultural Rhetoric, as part of practical teaching, all under the guidance of Professor Adriana Merino. Professor of the Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo Larisa Kasumagić-Kafedžić hosted this project. A workshop on the topic of intercultural learning in the language teaching process was held at our faculty, led by Associate Professor Edina Rizvić-Eminović.

The event began with introductory speeches by Hasan Avdušinović, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation and Quality Assurance, Alice Arnaut, Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, and Hazim Begagić, Head of the Department of Culture and Tourism.

The presentations covered key topics, including intercultural communicative competence in teaching English as a foreign language in our country (Rizvić-Eminović) and intercultural communication in the methodology of teaching English at our faculty (Senior Assistant Professor Šukalić). In addition, Zuhdija Karić, a student of Cultural Studies, also gave a presentation, providing a valuable student perspective on intercultural communication.

The visit concluded with a presentation by Associate Professor Melissa Bureković on the topic of Bosnian coffee as a ritual of connection and hospitality. Participants tried their hand at preparing traditional Bosnian coffee, experiencing local culture in a practical way. Our students were very enthusiastic about spending time with the guests, which made this workshop an extremely rich and unforgettable experience. In addition to academic discussions, the event further encouraged cultural exchange through an organized tour of Zenica, allowing guests to get to know the city better and at the same time strengthen professional ties.
