Faculty of Philosophy, University of Zenica • Zmaja od Bosne 52, 72000 Zenica
The University of Poitiers (France) and the University of Zenica (Faculty of Philosophy) invite you to participate in the European Summer School on Cinema, Social Sciences and Humanities, held in Zenica from 20 to 24 April 2026.
About the Summer School
The European Summer School on Cinema, Social Sciences and Humanities (Transcultural Approaches to Cinema) is open to students
wishing to discover documentary cinema and learn how cinema can function as a subject, object and method for the humanities
and social sciences.
The program includes both practical and theoretical elements. The practical component focuses on basic audiovisual tools and
cinema in research; the theoretical part explores this year’s theme of Otherness through broader critical and analytical questions
of cinema. Activities include interventions, debates, screenings and practical workshops structured around filmmaking workshops,
documentary film studies, theoretical approaches and transdisciplinary skills. A French language workshop is also included.
The Summer School is organised by the University of Zenica in partnership with the University of Poitiers, with the participation
of other universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Subject of the 2026 edition
The central theme of the 2026 edition is otherness. Through a transdisciplinary lens (film studies, sociology,
history, philosophy, literature, and the arts), the theoretical component examines how cinema addresses difference,
marginalization and identity. Over five days, participants develop practical filmmaking skills while exploring how film represents
these themes. The summer school focuses on cinema as an empirical exploration and a form of expression in the social sciences
and humanities.
