FACULTY OF PHILOSOPHY IN ZENICA HOST WORKSHOP ON VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IN THE PRINT MEDIA
At the Faculty of Philosophy in Zenica, on Thursday, December 4, 2025, a public lecture and workshop entitled: "Representation of violence against women in the print media during the socialist era in Bosnia and Herzegovina" was held. The lecturer and workshop leader was Professor Mirza Džananović from the Faculty of Philosophy in Zenica, and the entire program was moderated by Prof. Dr. Fahd Kasumović from the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Sarajevo. The participants of the lecture and workshop were students of the Zenica Medical High School and students of the Culture and Tourism and Cultural Studies study programs from the Faculty of Philosophy in Zenica.
After an introductory lecture, which provided the workshop participants with the appropriate context of media reporting on violence against women in socialist Bosnia and Herzegovina, the implementation of the planned activities at the workshop began. The participants worked in five groups, within which they analyzed certain historical sources, such as inscriptions from the daily newspaper "Oslobođenje" or the weekly magazine "Naša riječ", but also through the analysis of the texts of popular songs or scenes from the Bosnian and Herzegovinian feature films "Hanka", "Ovo malo duše" and "Kuduz". The goal was to determine how the aforementioned sources addressed the issue of violence against women, but also the position of women in general. The participants presented their observations and conclusions through exhibition panels, which was followed by an interesting and dynamic discussion.
The lecture and workshop were realized as part of the project: "What (we) have learned from history? Educational workshops and public lectures on violence against women", which is realized with the support of the Henrich Böll Sarajevo Foundation.
