Organized by the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Zenica and the Department of Culture and Tourism, and in cooperation with the Bosnian National Theatre Zenica, a guest lecture will be held by the distinguished American theatre scholar, theorist and theatre artist Prof. Dr. Bryan Reynolds from the University of California, Irvine (USA), entitled: “What's an Artist to Do?: Performing Arts for Change in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia.”
The lecture will be held as part of teaching activities in the subjects Contemporary Cultural Production, Cultural Heritage Management and Performing and Stage Culture, led by Prof. Dr. Hazim Begagić with associates MA Denis Krdžalić and MA Alen Šabanović, senior assistant. The lecture will be attended by students of the Cultural Studies and Culture and Tourism study programs, as well as other teachers, associates, and guests from the professional community.
In his presentation, Prof. Reynolds will talk about the experiences and research resulting from his many years of work on political theater projects and "
performance activism” in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia regions. The lecture is based on his current research and manuscript for the book Art Beyond the Edge (University of California Press, 2026, co-authored with Mark LeVine).
With this event, the Department of Culture and Tourism continues the practice of connecting theoretical knowledge, artistic practice, and social engagement, and provides students with direct insight into contemporary trends in performative and cultural studies.
The realization of this lecture represents another form of continuation of the successful professional and expert cooperation between the Faculty of Philosophy and the Bosnian National Theatre Zenica as partner organizations that jointly implement numerous activities and projects in the fields of culture, art, education and science.
