Workshop: Canva and comics as teaching tools

On Tuesday, April 8, 2025, a workshop for students of the first year of the study program was held at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Zenica Mathematics and computer science. The topic of the workshop was the application of tools Canva in the creation of an educational comic book with a focus on mathematical content.
The workshop was led by assistant Edina Kadrić Durmiš and assistant Vehid Kurtić, and during an interesting hour and a half, students got to know the basics of working in Canva, researched templates, and created own comics using mathematical concepts and examples. The workshop was also an opportunity to get acquainted with comics as a pedagogical tool that can play a significant role in teaching.
🎈 "As future educators, you will be the ones who devise ways to bring knowledge closer to students. And this is where comics come in as a powerful ally – they help make abstract ideas more understandable, motivate students, and make the material interesting and easier to remember."
At the end of the workshop, students were invited to participate in competition for the best mathematical comic as part of the STUFEK 2025 event. Although the competition is still ahead of them, by simply coming and engaging in the workshop, they have taken an important step towards a more innovative approach to teaching.
💬 Students left the workshop motivated, with a desire to further explore and develop their own ideas for the application of comics in education.
