Exhibition "Women also built Zenica"

Organized by the Department of General Cultural Studies of the Faculty of Philosophy in Zenica, today (May 29, 2018) the exhibition 'Women also built Zenica' was presented.

"Women also built Zenica" is a project of first-year students of the Department of Cultural Studies of the Faculty of Philosophy in Zenica. The project was realized with the aim of recognizing and appreciating the historical role of women in the development of the city.

During the preparation of the exhibition, students researched the names of streets, boulevards, squares, bridges, educational and public institutions in Zenica. Data show that there are a total of 150 streets in Zenica, and only two are named after women, Sestara Ditrih street and Kraljica Katarina street, while 43 streets are named after men. According to the same data, there are three boulevards, six squares and four bridges in Zenica, none of which are named after a woman. Out of a total of 35 primary and secondary schools in the city of Zenica, a total of 15 schools are named after men, none after women.

Such data motivated the students to present the contribution of four women. Natalija and Ljubice Vaclav, who were the first piano teachers in the Primary Music School and thanks to them, the city gave birth to numerous musicians. Sanele Redžepagić, who was an opera artist, and a foundation was founded under her name whose mission is to spread awareness about breast cancer prevention. Sabahe Čolaković, who during the Second World War actively participated in movements to protect citizens and fight against occupiers.

The students expect that with this exhibition, they will encourage the authorities not to neglect the role of women in the community.
