FEMALE STUDENTS OF CULTURAL STUDIES AT THE PANEL DISCUSSION ON MEDIA LITERACY

Students of the Cultural Studies, together with media professionals, professors and representatives of the non-governmental sector participated in the panel discussion "Media and Media Literacy", organized on the occasion of the completion of the module of the same name of the Program for the Empowerment of Young Women in the Community.

The panel discussion was held in the Museum of the City of Zenica, where the results of research on the representation of women in the media were presented, as well as the results of a survey on the perception of citizens on the representation of women in the media. "The goal of the research was to get to know the citizens' perception of the representation of women in the media. This topic is extremely important to us, so we decided to see what our local community thinks about this issue. As many as 51.8 percent of the respondents, mostly young people, think that the media portrays women equally in their media content," said Indira Agić, Program participant and third-year student of Cultural Studies in Zenica.

The mentor of this research was the journalist Velida Harambašić-Kulenović, and the lecturer during the module and participant in the panel discussion was also a professor from the Department of Cultural Studies of the University of Zenica, Assoc. Ph.D. Hazim Begagić.

The panel discussion was also attended by representatives of the American Corner in Zenica, longtime partners of the Cultural Studio.

The program was organized by the Youth Association "REaktiv" from Zenica with the financial support of the Embassy of the United States of America in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
